    Omani citizens can apply for  a change in their names on one of the following areas:

    • Request changing the first name.
    • Request changing the name of father and/or grandfather.
    • Request names of a newborn.
    The applicant should apply for this service in person at  any of the Civil Status Directorates in the Sultanate. If the applicant is below 18 years old, the father should be attending on his/her behalf.

    Death cases should be registered for Omanis whether it is in Oman or abroad. If the death happened in the Sultanate, it shall be reported within 2 weeks from the day of occurrence. If the death of an Omani occurred abroad, it should be reported within 1 month. Death certificate will be issued as an official document.

    The applicant should apply for this service in person at  any of the Civil Status Directorates in the Sultanate.

    If a citizen has no document that proves his birth information (official birth certificate), he/she can apply for an age estimation certificate. This is necessary  when a citizen applies for a new ID  card and/or a passport for the first time. Applicants should  visit  any of the Civil Status Directorates in the Sultanate and fill an age estimation form in order to submit it to the Ministry of Health.

    The applicant should apply for this service in person. If the applicant is below 18 years old, the father should be attending on his/her behalf.

    Death cases that happen in Oman and/ or for Omanies abroad should be reported in 2 weeks of its date. If the death was not reported until 1 year of the date it occurred in, a new request of registration should be made to ROP. The applicant should be a relative to the deceased.  Death certificate will be issued as an official document.

    The applicant should apply for this service in person at  any of the Civil Status Directorates in the Sultanate.

    Marriage/divorce must be registered in the Civil Register to be legally valid. This service is available for Omani citizens and residents in the Sultanate, in case one party of the marriage or divorce has Omani nationality. The event must be reported within 30 days from the date of occurrence. The Ministry of Justice, represented by the Notary Public departments, shall issue the marriage/ divorce certificates.

    The Notary Public departments send the marriage/ divorce notifications along with the related documents to the Directorate General of Civil Status.

    To register marriage or divorce after long time, one party may apply to a Civil Status section/department with original documents of the marriage or divorce requesting the registration of the event.

    The applicant should apply for the service in person at  any of the Civil Status Directorates in the Sultanate.

    The birth event is registered for Omanis and foreigners residing in the Sultanate. The birth must be reported within 2 weeks from the date of birth in the Sultanate. A birth certificate will be issued as a legal document.

    For Omanis, if the birth takes place outside Oman and their stay was for more than 1 month, birth must be reported within 3 months.  If the stay was for less than 15 days, the berth should be reported in less than one month.

    The Omani newborn's given name should match the Omani culture and traditions.

    The applicant should apply for the service in person at  any of the Civil Status Directorates in the Sultanate.

    In case the birth certificate was lost or damaged, citizens and residents can apply for a new copy at any of the Civil Status Directorates in the Sultanate.

    Every Omani citizen who is above 15 years of age must apply for an ID. This is obligatory for males, and optional for females.

    Those who are below 15 years old may obtain an ID card conditional on their legal guardian's consent.

    This application can be made at any of the Civil Status Directorates in the Sultanate. Applicants must appear in person if they are 15+ years old and accompanied by their legal guardian if below 15.

    ID card is valid for 5 years and must be renewed before the expiry date.
